Hey there! My name is Karra (pronounced KAR-ra) and I’m a potter, maker, host, and food stylist living in Seattle, Washington. I grew up here and have roots throughout the Pacific Northwest. Before starting In The Shed, I worked as a pastry chef. I come from a long line of growers, sewers, fixers, builders, and working with my hands is definitely in my blood. I inherited a lot of old tools from my family, and you’ll see a lot of their stuff In The Shed and what I make is a reflection of my nostalgic sensibilities.
While looking to change my career and feed my curiosity I tried a lot of the arts—wood working, jewelry, paper design and sewing and when I finally got into a pottery class in 2018, I loved it SO much. In The Shed was in the works around 2016 with the idea that ‘anything goes’. I quickly realized that it was about strengthening community, bringing us together to do different and unique things. Where else are people having family style dinners, making jewelry, pottery and other arts in a shed? I love using this as a space for artists to showcase their work, share ideas, and connect with one another. This project is my way of paying homage to my family, putting their tools to work, and paying it forward to other makers.
I feel lucky and honored to have my work sold in cool shops and restaurants including Orcas Paley, Persephone, the London Plane, Hedgerow, Re Evolucion and Housewright and EDIT.
You can find me In The Shed working with clay, teaching a class, or tinkering with a new project in the garden.
